Girls Varsity Tennis defeated Corona del Mar in the co-captain singles category on September 29th.
The match was a constant close call– as one team scored, the other would come back strong. However, the team captains fought hard all the way through and swept all 3 sets. This match was UHS’ only win that day.
Throughout the first set, CdM put up a tough fight, but co-captain Kayla Agustin (Jr.) won UHS a point.
“Kayla Agustin was the star of the match,” Mr. John Kessler (Social Science Dept) said. “…she was on fire and played some of the best doubles I have seen.”
Halfway through the second set, UHS served and in turn CdM hit a lob, which is a hit that goes high and deep into the opponent’s court. Wang then positioned herself to smash the ball for the win.
UHS stayed motivated and as the game neared an end, CdM served the ball towards Ashlyn Wang (Sr.), where she responded with a strong forehand, winning the last set as well.
“[CdM] is just here to play,” said Agustin after the match. “We have the heart and passion in the game.”
