The featured artist for the month of November is filmmaker Neema Sadeghi (Jr.). Sadeghi has been involved in Advanced Video Production and Univision since his freshman year. He developed an interest in film early in his life when he attempted to understand how filmmakers create movies. “Neema has so much passion, energy and desire to be the best filmmaker possible and has spent all of his time focused on film. He wants everything to be perfect and off-the-charts good,” said his mentor and teacher, Ms. Hali Kessler (Visual and Performing Arts Dept.).Sadeghi has created films both in and outside of University High School (UHS). He has a major role in the filming and creating of Univision videos and is also involved in the FilmEd Academy of the Arts Program. He enjoys being a part of the filmmaking world because of the environment and the people he works with on a daily basis. He has also had the impressive opportunity to work on the Chapman and USC film sets.
Sadeghi has impacted the Video Production program at UHS by spending hours focusing on film and being a “role model to all the other students,” said Ms. Kessler. Kessler adds, “Neema is a really sweet and optimistic kid. He’s willing to stand back and not even take credit just for the sake of the project. I wouldn’t be able to do this program without him.”
Sadeghi said, “Without the program and Mrs. Kessler, I wouldn’t know what I want to do for the rest of my life.”
When asked to identify something that most people do not know about filmmaking, Sadeghi said, “From pre-production to production to post-production, it takes a really long time to make the most simple projects look great. For example, I am working on a project right now that we started pre-production for last year. Even something that seems as simple as orientation took several all-nighters to get right.”
