The University High School (UHS) girls soccer team ended league play on Thursday, February 11 against Irvine High School (IHS). The game was the Game of the Week; class councils, the Associated Student Body (ASB) and members of the Trojan Army came out to cheer on the team at the UHS Stadium. It was also Senior Night, so the team said an official goodbye to the players who will be graduating this year.

The Trojans came out strong and were leading 3-0 by half time. Reema Bzeih (Sr.), Romi Sadlik (Sr.), Shantae Elam (Sr.) and Chloe Hemingway (Sr.) all scored for the Trojans. UHS ended the game with 4 goals to a scoreless IHS.

Hemingway said, ” It was a great way to end the season. I love my team so much and some of the players I’ve been playing with my entire life. We always support each other and have a good time no matter what.”

The Trojans have improved from their last game against IHS on January 23, where they had previously lost to Irvine by a score of 3-2.

Martin Stibolt (Head Coach) said, “The season went well. We had a lot of potential. I think the players agree with me in that we did not necessarily live up to that potential. We expected more of ourselves this season than we showed on the field, but games like today show what we are capable of. Hopefully we can build from here and carry on in the next year.”

This was Coach Stibolt’s first year coaching the girls Varsity soccer team; he will coach again next year.
The girls ended their season with a record of 3-6-1 in Pacific Coast League, finishing in fourth place. They have a slim chance at a wild card spot in CIF.
