There is no heaven like heaven on Earth.
Once, in health class, we measured heart rates,
and mine beat so fast that I thought
my veins were too thin; so
I wrote a different number on the paper.
I went on a run at 7:28 PM,
alone with the world and my hummingbird heart,
under a moon so barely there I wondered if
her veins were too thin, too.
My legs took me somewhere like heaven on Earth,
pavements made pink by the perfume of the sunset
and an evening so lovely it could have been Eden.
And so, cheeks and chin tingling with
the feeling of rushing blood,
made half dizzy by the beauty of the painted sky,
I walked home.
