On Thursday, September 18, University High School (UHS) girls volleyball lost to Tesoro High School. The Trojans put up a great fight but ultimately were unable to keep up with Tesoro’s strong offense. UHS ended up losing all 3 games, finishing with a final score of 0-3.
UHS struggled to communicate throughout the game; each time Tesoro spiked the ball, UHS could not return it. OP Leila Heiba (Sr.) said, “Everyone put all their effort into the game, but we couldn’t quite keep the ball up.”
Although UHS’ defense was spotty, the offense showed enormous improvements from previous games. Co-captain Cali Fuller (Sr.) consistently spiked the ball over the net even when there were large point differences. Fuller said, “Even if we are down ten points, why would I give up?”
The team hopes to continue improving to ultimately win league and compete in the California Interscholastic Finals. Christine Bennet (Sr.) said, “With head coach Jessica Papell the team should be able to do really well during season. She constantly pushed us at practice and wants to see us all succeed.”
The team is 2-5 thus far in the season. Its next home game will be against Foothill High School on September 23rd at 5:15 at UHS.
