Girls water polo lost to Ocean View High School (OVHS) on Tuesday, January 6. It was a close game in which there was no clear winner until the crushing fourth quarter.

In the first quarter, UHS came out strong and slammed four shots into Ocean View’s goal. Lead scorer and team co-captain Kyla Pickell (Sr.) said, “Since we all had just came back from winter break, we all came out with a lot of heat and determination.” Closing the first quarter, the score was 4-1.

Throughout the second quarter, each team only scored once, leaving UHS in the lead 5-2. Due to goalie Molly Hudash’s (Jr.) five saves throughout the game, UHS was able enter the next quarter confidently.

When half time was over, UHS entered the game with less intensity, resulting in only a one point lead of 7-6. UHS faced problems defensively in both the third and fourth quarter, allowing Ocean View to score five more goals in the last quarter. Ultimately, UHS lost 9-11 to Ocean View.

The team is now 5-5 overall. The Trojans began regular league play on January 8 at Woodbridge High School, winning 10-6.
