The UHS Girls Basketball team began the season remarkably well, winning its first three games. The girls defeated Dana Hills with a score of 52-34, San Clemente with a score of 61-40 and El Dorado with a close score of 41-37.

The team’s success is heavily due to the amount of effort that the girls are putting in.

“This year, our team is a group of super hard-working girls,” Yasmine Choroomi (Sr.) said.

This hard work was displayed at the recent tournament. Choroomi said, “We did fairly well in [University High School’s] tournament last week. We beat San Clemente and El Dorado, and were able to hold it together during Mater Dei’s press.”

During the tournament, the girls faced off against Woodbridge (WHS) in the 3rd place game following the loss to Mater Dei, but unfortunately lost. Choroomi said, “Our loss to Woodbridge hurt, considering the fact that we were leading the first half.”

The Trojans responded to the disappointing loss with a 56-41 win over Katella the next week.

UHS looks to improve off of its strong start to the season. The team is looking forward to Pacific Coast League games, and is working hard to defeat WHS when they play against each other again.

“We are very motivated and determined to do well this season. We put in a lot of work and our team works very well together,” Captain Allison Piper (Sr.) said.
