Girls Golf began their league matches with a significant victory over Irvine on Wednesday, September 20.  This win was an important comeback match from their loss against Corona Del Mar.

The match had a rough start, with some players performing their best and other players struggling. However, UHS preserved and came out victorious, with a score of 192, and Irvine with 256. As the team endured the difficult beginning, they also came together to support one another.

“This match really helped all of us feel united,” said Eugene Rhee (Jr.). For the Girls Golf Team, unity is key as they look ahead to CIF. Countless hours of practice and matches all help prepare them for League finals and CIF.

As the match neared the halfway point, UHS was improving significantly in its performance. “Towards the last few holes I started to make birdies to make up for my mistakes,” said Samantha Cabunag (Jr.). In golf, a birdies is a score of 1 under par, which is a predetermined amount of strokes needed to complete an individual golf hole. For Cabunag and many others on the team, their strong determination throughout the match helped them pinpoint mistakes and fix them quickly.

“The Irvine match made us feel a bit more confident,” said Kristin Shea (Jr.). “We were able to realize how well we can do as a team, but it also made us realize how much we can improve”.
