The Homecoming Dance and Pep Rally at Corona del Mar High School (CdM) in Newport Beach was recently cancelled in response to the disruptive actions of several intoxicated underage students. The Homecoming football game, however, proceeded as scheduled.

An incident occurred on Friday, September 16th where a large group of underage students were illegally drunk and publicly disruptive following a football game on Friday, September 16th at Orange Coast College’s Lebard Stadium, resulting in one arrest.

Students were described as extremely intoxicated, to the point of dysfunction and eventual unconsciousness. Students were “found by security personnel stumbling around the concourse or laying in their own vomit in the restrooms,” Corona del Mar High Lacrosse Coach G.W. Wix said in a Facebook post.

“We are struggling with a disconnect within our parent community where a pervasive culture exists that allows or tolerates their children to bend or break the rules and violate district policies,” Corona del Mar High Principal Kathy Scott Scott said in the letter, according to the OC Register. “Our goal is to help our children develop into respectful responsible law abiding citizens.”

Consequences were also placed in on the school itself for the student misconduct after the game.

“OCC [Orange Coast College] will no longer allow CdM to use its facilities for sporting events, Scott said,” the Los Angeles Times reports.
