University High School hosted the cross country league finals for all Pacific Coast League schools at William R. Mason Regional Park on November 3 to close out the season. With both Boys and Girls Varsity finishing the season on a high note, Cecilia Langlois (So.) is the only runner who is continuing on to CIF.
Girls Varsity exceeded expectations as Langlois ran an incredible time of 18:13, edging out a CDM runner for sixth place overall. Her fellow underclassmen teammates included Sara Sussman (So.), who secured 11th place overall with a time of 18:39, and Avery Klauke (Fr.), who placed 21st with a time of 19:01.
Boys Cross Country also performed very well with Christian Go (Jr.) leading Boys Varsity with a time of 16:47 and placing 23rd overall. Running the fastest for UHS this meet, Go said, “I’m both surprised and happy about how I did today especially because I ran a new PR (personal record) in spite of all the competition.”
Ryan Liang (Jr.) greatly improved his own record with a time of 16:59 while Zachary Dignan (Sr.) improved with a personal record of 17:02, beating his previous time by more than 10 seconds.
Boys Varsity Captain Nathan Gali (Jr.) unfortunately had to persevere through a cramp during the middle of the run and ended with a time of 17:23.
Looking back at the season, Gali said,“Cross country running is really tough, it’s all pain and punishment, but the finish at the end makes it all worth it.”
