Girls Varsity soccer ended their season with a 2-1 victory against Woodbridge High school on February 9, bringing their overall record to 5-4-1. After this victory, the team is locked in for CIF.
Woodbridge had solid control over the ball in the first 10 minutes and put pressure on the Trojans’ side of the field. Goalkeeper Jukyung Oh (So.), along with the backline consisting of Vicki Chen (Sr.) and Iva Petkov (Sr.) were able to prevent the Warriors from having clear opportunities to score.
By the 15 minute mark, the team showed a major change in their performance. The passes were more successful, and the Trojans were putting pressure on the Warriors.
During the second half of the game, the opposition stepped up their game and gave the girls a greater challenge. Five minutes into the half, UHS fouled and gave Woodbridge a penalty kick, making the score tied at 1-1. However, midfielder Kiana Ghamari (Sr.) took a shot and brought the score to 2-1.
“I think the game was closer than we expected but we played really well,” Petkov said, “It was a great senior night and great end to our season.”
In addition to being the last league game of the season, this was also the team’s senior night, where each senior is acknowledged for their achievements.
“I’ve grown to love this team with all my heart, so I hated knowing I was playing my last league game with them,” said Chen. “But we still played well and I’m glad the team stayed composed and worked hard. Everyone was really supportive and I couldn’t have asked for a better group to play with.”
