First Seeing You: a poem

By RACHELL CHON

If I walk through the streets,
And see you there,
Will I approach your undefined presence,
Or hold my ground and move with care?

If five minutes go by,
And we have yet to say a word,
Will I say the first syllable,
Or just let silence be heard?

Let’s say I give up,
And think to other thoughts,
Will I regret not getting to know you?
Maybe I can forget the dreams I made up,
Suppress the emotions that failed to find its wings,
And finally just let go.
Can I let go of this feeling I caught and know if it’s true?

If five minutes go by,
And we have yet to say a word,
Will you put one phrase in front of the other,
And place meaning inside any unclear notions,
Or speak to my uncertainties and fantasies,
Maybe give them their wings;
Can you say the first syllable?
