Girls Varsity Soccer lost 4-0 to Temecula Valley High School at CIF quarter-finals on Friday, February 24. This concludes the team’s run in CIF for this year.
With improved strategies and training, the team has progressed farther in CIF than they have in previous years. “We were definitely more organized this year,” player Iva Petkov (Sr.) said. “Out of my four years with the soccer team, this is definitely the year where I felt like we could achieve something.”
The team fell to 2-0 in the first half, with Temecula Valley scoring the first goal in the beginning 10 minutes. “At the end of the day, the other team did a great job and played better than us,” Coach Ignacio Cid (Athletics Dept.) said. “I wish them the best of luck and that’s the way the game is.” This was Coach Cid’s first year coaching UHS girls soccer.
Senior players agree that this season was the best so far, both on and off the field. “I feel closer to the team this year,” Vicki Chen (Sr.) “Usually we’re sort of separated and each doing our own thing but this year we were more like a family. It’s sad to end on this note but it has definitely been the best season we’ve ever had.”
“I thought the seniors were phenomenal, they really put in a lot of work,” Coach Cid said. “I’m proud of all the girls and they way they finished.”
