Girls Tennis defeats Woodbridge by a large margin

Over their successful match Girls Varsity Tennis defeated Woodbridge 14-4 on Tuesday, October 3. The girls are currently 6-1 overall and 3-0 in league.

“Although we had a rocky start, our team pulled through,” captain Snigdha Vayalapadu (Sr.) said. “The combination of cheering and hard work contributed to our solid win over Woodbridge. I think our team has a lot of strong players and we’re all looking forward to a great season ahead of us.”

Doubles had a strong performance, winning eight out of nine sets. Ashi Parashar (Sr.) and Therese Garcia (Fr.) swept all three of their matches, winning a close set 7-5 against the number one team. The freshman duo Emily Markus (Fr.) and Mya Wang (Fr.) also won all their matches, with scores of 6-0, 6-3 and 6-1. Jacklyn Yoon (Jr.) dominated singles, winning all three of her matches with scores of 6-2, 6-2, and 6-0.

“Overall it was an exciting match and I think that our team is doing well,” Yoon said. “Although all three of our regular singles players did not play today, we still secured six sets against the other team.”

Sophia Kabany (So.), usually a doubles player, played singles against Woodbridge, winning both of her matches. A notable player was Amber Rogers (Fr.) who came up from JV. She won one match 6-3 and lost two matches 3-6 and 6-7, a close tiebreaker.

“The atmosphere at this match was amazing and every single member of our team was cheering their hearts out,” Rogers said. “We are a close knit team and I am excited to have a great first season.”

The team is set to play Beckman on Thursday, October 5.
