Boys Varsity Water Polo was defeated by Northwood 5-16 on Monday, September 24 at home.
The team has only three losses this season including this game.
“I think our Northwood game was tough but the rest of our season has gone really great,” sophomore Liam Horan said. “We are currently 13-3, one win away from CIF consideration.”
The next game, which is against Irvine High School, will determine if Boys Water Polo will be able to be considered for CIF.
“The hope for this season is to get considered for CIF,” coach Jesse Briggs said. “That would be good.”
Briggs hopes to improve the team’s defense. Although the goalie, senior Cameron Bernardo, made many saves throughout the match, the team was getting thrown off by Northwood’s quick counter attacks.
“They are one of the best in our league and we went into the game with a winning mindset,” Bernardo said. “We played well but they played better.”
Though some of the defense needs some improvement, things have definitely improved from last year.
“Compared to last year, we were physically outmanned; you know they were much stronger than us,” Briggs said. “This year we are much stronger.”
They will face off against Irvine High on Thursday, September 27 in order to determine which team will be considered for CIF.
