Trojan Football went up against Portola High School this past Friday, resulting in a 46-14 loss. The game also was the Pink Out game, in which students were encouraged to wear pink in honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness month.
Despite the outcome of the game, The Trojans still managed to perform well against Portola both offensively and defensively. Sophomore Ziyad Merchant, throwing for 200+ yards with a QuarterBack Rating of 60.6, threw both his first and second touchdown of his Varsity career during the game. Senior Skyler Pouper caught both touchdowns, also a first for the season. Sophomore Noah Scherson had 2 catches for 78 yards, with the Trojan’s passing and running game remains a constant against any defense. Additionally, Junior Taiga Ho continues to be one of the best running backs in the PCL.
“It was a tough loss but we have to look at the positives” said Pouper. “Me and Ziyad connected twice to put points up on the board, and if we can continue that connection we should be good for the rest of the season”
Unfortunately, previous starting Quarterback and starting Linebacker Junior Brian Bush went down early in the game with a knee injury and could be out for the remainder of the season. Despite this loss, the Trojans have high hopes for their upcoming game against Irvine High, who have an overall league record of 0-3 thus far into the season.
“I look forward to winning the next 3 games and making CIF” said Senior Brian Choobin.
The next football game will take place this Friday, October 18th, at 7:00 versus Irvine High School.
