On October 15th, Girls Volleyball suffered a 3-0 defeat to Beckman High School, ending their league campaign with a 7-3 record. With this, they achieve their goal of qualifying for CIF.
Though the game did not go in their favor, there were positive signs for the UNI team.
“We fought back even though we were down lots of points and have been doing everything we have learned and practiced” junior Karla Buitrago-Yepes said.
Buitrago-Yepes assisted in blocking multiple shots, while hitting fast-tempo sets from the middle of the court.
Despite the tough opponent, the team did not give up to Beckman easily in the first and third rounds.
“We were consistent and had very good serves, and did our best to bring it back,” senior Lily Krongold said
Krongold delivered 8 kills against Beckman, giving a strong offensive throughout the whole game.
Coming out of the match with the team’s second loss to Beckman, Girl’s Volleyball look to learn from this game and improve.
“We need to stay more consistent with applying pressure on an opposing team and blocking shots” reflected senior Julia Campos.
Campos was able to successfully hit 5 aces against Beckman.
Following this defeat, Girls Volleyball will be facing the Marlborough Mustangs on October 24th as apart of their fight in the third division CIF Southern Section Tournament.
