The Boy’s Basketball team participated in the Diablo Inferno tournament at Mission Viejo last week and went 1-3, with losses to Capistrano Valley Christian, Notre Dame, and Mission Viejo. Despite struggles at the start of the tournament, including an especially tough 57-59 loss to Capistrano, the team was able to rebound  towards the end, defeating Woodbridge 60-54.

In the game against Woodbridge, the Trojans had a strong start and a strong finish, outscoring their opponent by a combined total of 13 points in the first and fourth quarter. The Trojans also had their best defensive performance of the year, with the 54 points scored by Woodbridge being a season low.

“We obviously aren’t happy we started slow, but I thought we had one of our most complete performances of this season against Woodbridge. I think if we can replicate our performance from that game, we can win a lot more down the road.” senior Jonathan Lin said.

“I just think that by playing and competing against really good teams like the ones we saw at the tournament, it’ll make us better players and a better team going forward.” Senior Arjun Gill said.

Coach Beau Budde shared similar thoughts with Gill, believing the stiff competition will improve the team in the long run.

“These tournaments, we’re playing a lot of really good teams, that are usually ranked pretty high. Ever game I’ve set up is supposed to be pretty tough for us. Our goal for the team is to make sure we’re peaking not now, but when league starts. I’ve always told the kids that failure or adversity is inevitable, and if it’s inevitable we need to know how to use it. The moments of adversity we got to learn what we did wrong, and to get better at that, and to always be progressing in that direction”.

The Trojan’s next tournament will be the CDM Varsity Tourney starting December 13th, at 7:30 P.M.
