Girl’s Water Polo Loses Nailbiter To Start League

Girl’s water polo team came up short against Irvine and finished with a score of 3-5. After a successful 6-2 pre-season, the match was their first league match. Despite the loss, the team was able to keep the game close and had a solid performance overall.

“I thought the team tried really hard and played very well against them,” Senior Driver Ysabel Mariana said.

The offense was led by Freshman Driver Ashley Wallin, who scored all three of the team’s goals.

“Ashley is a strong player, is very aggressive, and is able to score goals effectively,” Coach Jesse Briggs said.

Even with the potent offense from Wallin, the game was difficult for the team, and they look to learn from the match as they get further into league.

“I think that the game yesterday was a very tough game, but a good learning experience for our team,” Wallin said.

After the game, the team reflected on what they needed to improve on. After over three weeks without a game, rust may have impacted their performance.

“The game showed that the team needs to work on keeping a level head when under pressure and get back into the groove after having rested so long,” Briggs said.

With the team recovering from their long break from the competitive scene, their next game will be at home January 14 against Portola.
