Girl’s water polo lost to Northwood 7-8, giving them a 3-3 record heading into the late stages of league.
While the team collected goals throughout the game, Northwood had the most success in the final quarter. This pushed the game into overtime, where Uni narrowly loss.
I thought that it was a really tough game and definitely had me in suspense. It was a close game, but we lost in overtime,” Senior Driver Ysabel Mariana said.
As the team worked together to rack up points, freshman driver Ashley Wallin led the offense with 3 goals.
“Ashley is a good player and it’s great she’s supported by good teammates. Every member on the team is a strong player,” Coach Jesse Briggs said.
Even though the team performed well, there was still room for improvement, especially given that they had the lead for a large portion of the game..
“The team played very well leading up to the end, however, they began to lose their composure when Northwood began their comeback,” Coach Briggs said.
While there are aspects that the team can improve on, there are aspects that the team can take pride in.
“Water polo is all about teamwork and the girls can really represent that when they’re in the pool,” Coach Briggs said.
The team looks to carry that into their next match against Beckman on February 3rd.
