Boys Lacrosse won its home game against Esperanza 16-1 on Mar. 4. The game ended their preseason with a 3-2-0 record.

The team’s recent performance has moved them up the rankings, going from 16th in CIF Division 3 last season to seventh this season under Head Coach Nick Matzek. The team performance can be attributed to their tenacity and skill throughout the game.

It was a great blowout win,” senior captain Krutav Mididaddi said. “We were able to include players who usually don’t get many minutes. Those who don’t get many opportunities to get on the stat sheet were able to get a few goals and assists.”

Even with 10 seconds left in the first quarter with a 3-0 lead, they demonstrated their relentless tenacity and got one in as the clock ran down.

Going into the second quarter up 4-0, the team scored within the first eight seconds. In the span of 12 minutes, the team scored nine points to end the half 13-0.

Mididaddi, sophomore Koa Saito and senior captain Shreyas Shetye led all scorers with three points apiece.

In the third quarter though, neither team was able to get a point in.

“Our team really needs to work on clearing and riding the ball,” Mididaddi said. “Not being able to do these things during the game gives us less opportunities on the offensive side.”

Five minutes into the final quarter, Esperanza scored their first and only point.

“The team’s challenge was trying to keep them at zero goals, but unfortunately they scored one,” Shetye said.

Unmoved, the team scored three more points in the final quarter.

“The drive this team has and our player’s mentality of never letting up will prove to be beneficial for this team in the long run,” Middaddi said.  “This program has turned a new leaf under the new head coaches and we are ready to prove to everybody that we are a team to be fearful of.”

The team is already three games into their league season and has games against El Dorado and Woodbridge coming up on Mar. 19 and Mar. 21.
