UHS Blood Drive is a success

This week, 85 University High School (UHS) students participated in the Red Cross Club blood drive, helping to supply patients in critical conditions with the blood transfusions. 85 units were donated, and doctors say that just one unit of donated blood can save 3 lives.

All students who met the age, height and weight requirements had the opportunity to donate blood during school last Tuesday afternoon.
The American Red Cross, which has aided in blood collection for the past 74 years, estimates that nearly 41,000 blood donations are needed each day, and school-hosted blood drives provide almost 20 percent of the supply. UHS has been a proud contributor to this total for at least years.
Donated blood helps a wide variety of people, from cancer patients to car crash victims. Many of these people would die without blood transfusions, and blood donations save thousands of lives each year.
UHS and IUSD frequently makes efforts to help out in the community, ranging from annual food drives to blood donation programs such as this one.
