When I reached for your hand, it was like I was reaching for the highest star in the sky.
I knew that this time it was not going to be a “see you later,” but an actual goodbye.
I tried to ignore the endless tears rolling down your face.
I tried to ignore your gentle touch and your warm embrace.
It hurt me too much to think that it would be the last time
I would ever be in your arms or look up into your eyes.
I looked around and saw all the other couples far and few
while you attempted to tell me what I already knew.
I told you that death is not an act of honor or loyalty.
How can you want to fight and leave me here lonely?
Do you really believe defeat is worse than dying?
It would be a defeat for you to leave me here crying.
