UHS Girls Water Polo opened Pacific Coast League (PCL) play with a loss against Beckman High School (BHS) and a win against Northwood High School (NHS).
Despite consistent scoring from both teams in the league opener, Beckman came out on top with a score of 6-13. Chandler Denaro (Jr.), Shawna Kedzie (Sr.) and Sophia Bajak (Sr.) were the only ones who scored goals throughout the game.
Molly Hudash (Sr.) had 5 saves as goalkeeper. Hudash said, “Being a goalkeeper is a pretty stressful job, and there’s a lot of pressure on us to block every shot that’s taken. Keeping a level head and not focusing on the scoreboard during the game helps me play my best.”
The Trojans then played against NHS and defeated the Timberwolves by a score of 6-3. Ali Huxman (So.) and Kedzie each scored two goals to lead UHS. Kedzie also stole the ball 4 times from Northwood. The Timberwolves scored 3 goals in the first quarter, but the Trojans, led by goalie Hudash, did not allow them to score a goal for the rest of the game.
Gauvri Nathwani (Jr.) said, “We really fought back and I was very proud of the team. If we keeping fighting like we have been, our season will go well.”
