Varsity Football won their first home game against Pioneer by a score of 33-17 on Friday, September 8.
The Titans scored the first touchdown, but wide receiver Farbod Memarian (Sr.) and running back Daniel Dolan (Sr.) scored back to back touchdowns before halftime, 14-3.
In the beginning of the second half, quarterback Thomas Keeling (Jr.) was tackled and forced to leave the field. Max Haughey (Sr.), when describing what him and his team were feeling when Keeling was down, said, “When Thomas got injured I was worried for a second but then I realized that our team has been through so much adversity that it was not gonna matter because we were gonna keep fighting”.
Former quarterback and current receiver Tristan Lucas (Sr.) stepped up into Keeling’s position. Running back Claudell Martinez (Sr.) brought the Trojans from the 50 yard line to the 20 yard line. Dolan then battled the Pioneer’s defense and scored his second touchdown of the game.
With less than two minutes remaining, Lucas scored the final touchdown, finishing at 33-17.
The Trojans have a new defensive coordinator, Coach Ese Roberts (Athletics Dept.). Coach Roberts has had a huge impact on the team. Haughey said, “ [Roberts is] better than the last one because he is a players’ coach and acts like one of the boys”.
The Trojans look ahead to another home game against Calvary Chapel on September 22.
