Varsity Football brought home another victory against Calvary Chapel, winning 43-13. Despite losing their quarterback, Thomas Keeling (Jr.), last week to an injury, stand-in quarterback Tristan Lucas (Sr.) led the Trojans to victory, winning 43-13.
The Trojans scored a field goal with 5:53 remaining in the first quarter to open the scoring. With less than 40 seconds remaining in the first quarter, Zach Goodfriend (Jr.) scored a touchdown, but the point-after was blocked by the Eagles. With less than 3 minutes remaining before halftime, running back Claudell Martinez (Sr.) sprinted 54 yards down the field scoring the second touchdown followed by running back Branton Lucas (So.) sprinted 45 yards and scored the third touchdown with less than 30 seconds remaining before halftime. The Trojans led 23-7 at halftime.
With less than 20 seconds remaining in the third quarter, Austin Lake (Jr.) ran half the field and scored a 35 yard touchdown, extending their lead to 30-7. Safety Josiah Henry (Sr.) intercepted a pass, leading to another touchdown by Goodfriend. Running back Daniel Dolan (Sr.) sealed the victory for the Trojans with another touchdown. However, the Eagles scored a touchdown with 27 seconds remaining in the game, finishing at 43-13.
Defensive tackle Parker Selbo (Sr.) described how hard the team has been working. “Our team has improved drastically since last week after working on maintaining a high tempo in the game, as well as refining our technique. Overall, our team performed very well, definitely better than last week,” stated Selbo.
The Trojans look ahead to an away game against Estancia on September 22.
