Boys Soccer defeated Corona del Mar High School on January 30. This makes the team’s record 7-0, making them one step closer to achieving the league title with a perfect record.
Despite the strong victory, the team is critical about their performance. “Our team didn’t play as well as we had hoped,” goalie senior Javid Javadi said. “But even though we didn’t have our best game, we went out there and got the win. Mentally we should come in prepared to win and fight for the victory, and as a team we need to be more focused and get our heads in the game more.”
Javadi explains the significance of the game. “This game differentiated from the other games because it was CdM who won the league last year,” Javadi said. “We wanted to beat them and come out with the win so we could set ourselves up for the league title and hopefully a 10-0 run. We beat another team that was in our way and we are 7/10 of the way there to 10-0.”
Right wing senior Ivan Ma agrees with Javadi’s characterization of the game. “This game was the last time we play CdM because leagues change next year,” Ma said. “CdM has always been our rival, but this game secures the league title and has helped the team’s record to 7-0. We hope to finish a perfect season of 10-0; we just have to keep playing the way we are playing.”
The team’s next game is on February 1 against Irvine High School. Winning that game would bring the team another step closer to winning league with a flawless record.
