Boys Tennis has a current record of 10-0 in their preseason. After another undefeated season last year, the team is prepared to continue their decade-long undefeated league run.
Since late February, the team has been playing against other schools in their preseason, starting off with a win with a score of 16-2 against San Marino. The Trojans moved on from that victory to play Redlands and Palos Verdes, both of which they won 7-1. After four more wins, the team faced off against a possible CIF opponent, Harvard Westlake. It was by far their closest match of the preseason, but they won 11-7.
Continuing their winning streak, UHS played Los Alamitos and defeated them 16-2. Additionally, boys tennis recently played against Dana Hills and won 17-1, making their record 10-0.
Boys Tennis has been successful through the years, winning the title of league champions thirteen times and winning CIF ten times. This year’s tennis team have similarly high expectations and comments on the pressure and excitement to be played this year. “Our pre-season went well,” senior Leo Krapp said. “We are still putting together all the pieces of a pretty special puzzle. Despite rain and illness, we are setting up for an undefeated year in the best league and CIF division in the country.”
The team has a league win streak spanning well over a decade, with their last loss coming in 2006. The streak sits at 107 consecutive league games won, even more impressive given the credentials of PCL. PCL is arguably the best boys tennis league in the country, and all six of the PCL teams were in the top ten of the county last year.
The Trojans are hoping for a thirteenth-consecutive league title. Key contributors include seniors Naevin Anukornchaikul and Patryk Kozlowski, who have committed to Johns Hopkins and Cal Tech, respectively. The team’s depth should increase, as Krapp returns from a broken hand.
