Looking back on Girls Volleyball
November 6, 2018
Girl’s Volleyball season came to an end this past Thursday after falling to Burroughs High School 0-3 in the first round of PCL (Pacific Coast League) Playoffs, concluding the team’s CIF run.
“We haven’t gone to CIF in ten years,” reflected junior Lily Krongold. “So when we made it the whole team had a great experience despite the outcome.”
At the game, the team lost the first set 25-17 but was able to win their second with a score of 22-25. Following this, they lost the third set 25-18 and were unable to come back to win the fourth and final match, although they did bring the nail-biting game into overtime with a final score of 27-25.
“The team played really well and hard in the final game. The amount of effort put into the game made our season worth it,”senior Taylor Shuemaker said.
Despite their loss, Volleyball remains proud of their performance, both at the game and throughout the season.
“Overall it was a great season. We played really hard and had a lot of fun and everyone got really close. I’m gonna miss everyone and thank you to our coaches,” senior Tania Batarseh said.
Players and coaches alike are also optimistic about what future seasons hold for the team, especially considering their vast improvement over the last year.
“Next year I hope that girl’s volleyball will make it further into CIF than we did this year,” junior Serena Choi said.
Given the team’s improvement over the past season, Choi’s hopes are a very realistic goal come next Fall. However, for some, the final game of the season was a bittersweet moment.
“This season in particular a lot of my teammates made a difference in making the seniors last season really amazing. The chemistry in everyone was great. That’s something that I definitely will miss,” senior Sarah Alora said.
“I feel like we connected well as a team this year and that we really learned a lot about our limits and really began trusting each other,”senior Annabelle Park said.
Park, along with fellow players Batarseh, Alora, Shumaker, Amanda Schuler, Billie-Isabel Fitzpatrick, and Grace Fan, have finished their last season of volleyball for University and will be graduating this year.
“The new coaches pushed us to our limits and I think that the new attitude and dedication really helped our team in the long run,” Krongold said. “This season was definitely one for the books.”
Girl’s Volleyball finished the season with a 15-15 win-loss record, a huge improvement from last years 2-8 record.
