Boys Soccer defeated rival Woodbridge High School 3-2 last week on Thursday, January 10. This win put Boys Soccer at 9-1-2, bringing them one step closer to the goal of making CIF. The first game against Woodbridge, Boys Soccer had narrowly lost in penalty kicks.
“It felt really good to beat them this time especially because we played the way we wanted to and dominated the first half,” junior Neil Hudson said.
Hudson had an outstanding performance during this game, scoring a goal from over 30 yards from the goal during the first half.
“In the first half we played according to our game plan, which was to move the ball forward quickly, playing only one to two touch along the way,” Hudson said.
Boys Soccer scored three goals in the first half, but momentum shifted in the second half, with Woodbridge scoring two goals.
“Today’s game was a well deserved win because everybody was working very hard and the intensity was unbelievably high,” sophomore Rohit Chawla said.
Chawla, despite being new in the varsity lineup, had an assist in his first varsity game. He was brought up after senior Sebastian Hertel was injured in the previous game against Portola.
“It was a great feeling to win against the school rival, and the fact that we hadn’t won a home game against them in about four years made it all even better,” Chawla said.
Boys Soccer seeks to make CIF for the first time in Division One and for the second year in a row overall, after winning the championship last year in Division Two.
“We gave it our all in today’s game, and I believe that making and going far in CIF is a real possibility,” sophomore Andrew Jang said.
The next game will be away against Beckman High School on Tuesday, January 15.
