Boys Lacrosse won against Portola by a score of 12-3 on Wednesday March 20. Many players contributed to the team’s win, but senior Brandon Hariyanto was the star player, scoring over half of the team’s goals.
Hariyanto attributed good team support to his ability to score so highly and give the team the win overall.
“It went great. Overall, I think we worked well as a team, both on offense and defense, I don’t have much to say other than some people underperforming, but in the end we we played our best and came on top,” Hariyanto said.
The team had previously had some issues with fixing gaps in their defense, but senior captain Oliver Kubit thought that had completely changed with this game.
“It was a very great game on both sides of the field. Our defense was very in tune as well as our offense. Amazing performance by Hariyanto; he scored 7 of the 12 goals,” Kubit said.
Team morale had also bounced back after previous losses which damaged morale. Junior captain Matthew McCarthy only had praise for the team and captains.
“After coming off a hard loss, with the help of my fellow captains and myself, we pulled together to get the result we wanted. It was a great show of talent from individuals who really stepped up, like Brandon getting 7 goals,” McCarthy said.
Still, there is still much work to be done in order to succeed in the future, according to junior Phat Nguyen.
“Although the win on Wednesday was a good win and we dominated Portola, we should not be overconfident, and we should continue to work hard so that we can win more in the future,” Nguyen said.
Senior Rustin Sorat echoed the same sentiments at Nguyen.
“The game on Wednesday was a fun game. But it was the only outcome I expected. Portola is a young team and they have no varsity. Fun game and I’m glad it went the way it went,” he said.
Boys Lacrosse next game will be on April 10 against Northwood on University’s home field.
