Boys Tennis accelerates in performance The University High School (UHS) Trojans boys tennis team competed on the March 15 in the All American tournament at the Palisades Tennis Club in Newport Beach. The Trojans faced Phillips Academy Andover from Massachusetts to kick off the tournament.The team played managed to sweep the visitors with a clean sheet by a score of 8-0. Next the Trojans faced Los Alamitos High Schools, also putting forth an outstanding performance to clinch the win by a score of 7-1. The Trojans played in the semi-finals later that afternoon against San Marino High School, where the Trojans secured a spot in the All American finals as they defeated Los Alamitos with a score of 6-2.

The Trojans played against The Beacon School from New York in the finals game. The game started out slowly from both teams, but intensity arose as the game approached a 4-4 tie with 1 more game left. Sadly, the Trojans weren’t able to pull off the win, ending their tournament with a 2nd place title.

Konrad Kozlowski (Jr.) said, “Even though we didn’t win the finals, everyone on our team got a lot of experience against the best high school teams in the country and ultimately it was also a great team bonding experience. Even without the stars of last year, we came so close to winning the tournament because of our team chemistry.” The Trojans returned to their regular season on March 18, facing Fountain Valley High School at home. The team put forth an excellent performance, which helped them defeat the visitors by a score of 15-3.

The team has begun the countdown for its game of the Week (GOW) against Corona del Mar High School on April 1. The team promises that this will not a regular Game of the Week, because a win will mark the Trojans’ 100th straight win. This series was initiated 5 seasons ago and the team plans to extend it. This record would not just mark a record for UHS, it would be recorded as the longest high school tennis streak in California.
