On Tuesday, March 3, University High School (UHS) coupled with the American Red Cross to host its second blood drive this school year. Students who were 16 years of age or older were eligible to give blood, provided they met the weight qualifications.

UHS parent volunteers aligned with American Red Cross volunteers to check in students with pre-determined appointments. According to Red Cross volunteers, by fourth period on Tuesday, 83 students had showed up for standing appointments, however not all were qualified to donate on the spot. Red Cross volunteers explained that they hoped to have 100 eligible students donate blood by the time the drive closed.

Those who donated received snacks after donating, which many saw as an added bonus to an already worthy cause. Gauvri Nathwani (So.) explained that “Giving blood is a simple task that can make a big difference for a recipient.” The Red Cross collected total number of 93 units of blood by the end of the day.
