Girls Lacrosse lost to Corona del Mar High School with a close score of 9-10 on Wednesday, March 21. This game marks their first loss of the season.
The team reflects on the significance of the game. “This game was very important to us because CdM is a very well respected program and we have never been this close to beating them,” senior attack captain Olivia Holmes said. “What really defined the game was our defense’s incredible performance. They worked so well together and it was so satisfying to watch the CdM players try and get a goal in and fail time after time.”
Captain and goalie junior Grace Caceros agrees with Holmes’ characterization of the game. “CdM is a team that plays very competitively and to know that we came to close in this game is a big accomplishment for this program,” Caceros said. “Lacrosse is a game of possession, so really any moment could be a defining moment.”
Caceros reflects on her personal performance and the team’s performance throughout the game. “As always, I think I could do better,” Caceros said. “I don’t think you can be an athlete and tell yourself you were perfect. There are always things you can work harder at and be better at. As a team, we are always pushing to talk more and be there to support each other throughout the game.”
Holmes points out areas of improvement for the team. “What I really hope to improve on as a team is preventing turnovers on the attacking end of the field. Although this was our first loss all year, the score of the game is incredibly impressive and it will hopefully land us a better CIF ranking and playoff position.”
