Girls Golf Wins League
October 28, 2019
Girls Golf defeated Northwood High School by a margin of 232-189 to complete their undefeated league campaign. After winning CIF last season, the team looks to do the same once again, with a 12-1 record thus far including pre-season.
In the Northwood match, the team was able to show their preparedness for CIF, as even though many were not familiar with the course, the Trojans were still able to win by a sizable margin.
“When we played Northwood, many of our team members were playing the course for the very first time,” Senior and Co-Captain Alexis Kim. “As a result, we were a little nervous. Mostly though, we were excited because our season was coming to a close and we wanted to finish strongly.”
Though the team has consistently won league in recent years, it is no easy feat.
“I’m very proud of our team for winning league as it was not easy this year,” Sophomore Millie Batra said.
This was reflected in the scores, as though the team finished 10-0, there were four games where the opponent was within twelve points.
However, this increased difficulty in league could have prepared the team well for CIF, as due to their success in recent years, the team has moved into a higher division of CIF.
“Going to CIF I am a little nervous as they moved us into a bigger, much harder division. However, I believe our team still has a chance if we play well,” Batra said.
Though the competition will be more difficult, the team still has confidence in their chance to repeat.
“We have the potential to win CIF this year and with a lot of focus, I think we can defend our title,” Kim said.
The team’s CIF campaign will begin on November 5th at Jurupa Hills Golf Course.
