On October 9, 2020, the Sword & Shield opened up the Trojan Outlook: Election Edition survey to UHS students in anticipation of the 2020 presidential election. This survey serves to create a more comprehensive understanding of the student body. 169 students participated in the anonymous survey covering questions about their political leanings, candidates of choice, and news sources.
Overall poll results show the UHS student body is left-leaning, with a heavy Democratic base. Although only a small population of the study body is eligible to vote, nearly all of whom are old enough are planning to exercise their right to participate in the election. The candidates supported by the UHS student body ranged far and wide, with Bernie Sanders being the most favorable primary candidate, and Joe Biden being the most supported general candidate, falling in line with UHS’ general political alignment.
