On Saturday, December 14, the UHS Varsity Pep Squad competed at the USA Regional competition hosted at Santa Margarita High School. Song managed to take 2nd place, while Cheer took 5th. The Varsity, JV and and Freshmen cheer teams, along with Varsity Song all qualified for the USA National Competition in March.
Coach Katie Addiss (English Dept.) said, “they have worked very hard and definitely deserve this opportunity.”
Pep Squad captains this year are Jennica Castellar (Sr.) and Chloe Sutton (Sr.), while Song is lead by captain Mackenzie Collins (Sr.).
Varsity Song member Adena Seidenberg (Jr.) said, “We trained tirelessly all for this one routine and when the day finally came I was so nervous I almost peed. Competitions make all the hard work worth it. They are dope.”
Varsity Pep Squad member Shadi Roueenfar (Jr.) said, “I like competitions because they allow us to get recognized for all our hard work and it is fun to showcase our talents.” When asked about how cheer is different this year, she responded, “We have a new coach and a new stadium this year. Cheering at the new stadium was exhilarating and our new coach Mrs. Addiss is great and supportive.”
Pep Squad will cheer regularly at the UHS Boys Basketball games throughout the winter season and continue to train for the Nationals in March.
