Now that the holidays are approaching, you may find yourself blasting “Jingle Bell Rock” in the parking lot, but if you want a break from the holiday cheer you can check out December’s top iTunes songs that University High School (UHS) students have been listening to nonstop.

These days there is a large variety in music selection, so I decided to ask UHS students who their favorite artists are.
Jennica Castelar (Sr.) said, “I really enjoy listening to Drake because his songs are catchy and relatable. My favorite genre would have to be R&B.” Drake’s new album Nothing was the Same features “Just Hold on We’re Going Home,” which is currently listed as number one on iTunes top ten hip-hop songs.
Yasi Jahanamir (Sr.), a fan of the pop genre, said, “I like One Direction because of their voices, personalities and faces.” The boy band has won millions of teen hearts with their smiles and hair, and their music is making them famous as well. From their album Midnight Memories, “Story of My Life” is number five on iTunes top ten pop songs.
Miley Cyrus has also recently been the topic of conversation since her Video Music Awards performance and has fans like Julia Curtis (So.) starstruck. Curtis said, “I love Miley because she is always trying new things with her music and hair.” She recently released her new album Bangerz.
But you can never forget about the classics, such as the 1960s rock icon, The Beatles. Andrew Nguyen (Fr.) said, “I like the Beatles because every time I listen to them, it puts my mind at ease.” Their music was released onto iTunes several years ago and their album 1 maintains its popularity, listed in the iTunes Top 10 of rock albums. Famous hit songs like “Come Together” and “Let It Be” can be easily accessed and downloaded on iTunes.
Reggae music is one of Cara Teresi (Fr.)’s favorite types of music. Teresi said, “I like to listen to Bob Marley because his music is always relaxing.” Bob Marley dominates the reggae genre with four of his albums in iTunes top ten reggae albums. You can download popular Bob Marley’s songs such as “Stir It Up” and “No Woman No Cry” on iTunes.
This season, take a break from the holiday jingles and be sure to check out other popular songs either from the iTunes Top 10 or from the suggestions of your fellow classmates.
