The University High School (UHS) wrestling team lost the meet against Beckman High School (BHS) on Wednesday, January 8 and the meet against Corona Del Mar High School on Wednesday, January 15.
UHS’ top wrestlers Clay Hess (Sr.) and John Farah (Jr.) were both injured and could not wrestle for the first game against BHS. Farah had hurt his collarbone, while Hess had a twisted ankle.
When asked how it felt not being able to wrestle, Farah said, “Not wrestling especially when your team is depending on you, is the worst feeling ever.”
The Trojans faced the Corona del Mar Sea Kings on Wednesday, January 15 for the Game of the Week (GoW). The Trojans won four out of 12 matches. The four wrestlers who won their matches were captain Hess, Farah, Kian Ross (So.), and Armin Abid (So.).
Hess said after the match, “We wrestled hard as a team but couldn’t pull out the win. We win and lose together as a team.”
Two injuries to the Trojans occurred during the meet. Joey Dodd (Sr.) sustained an apparent leg injury while wrestling and Oscar Parra (Sr.) suffered a concussion severe enough for the paramedics to arrive and take him to the hospital.
The Trojans’ next meet is Wednesday, January 22 at Irvine High School.
