Baseball suffers tough loss against Laguna Hills
April 29, 2022
The baseball team suffered a tough 2-11 loss against Laguna Hills on April 13. While the boys did not receive the results they had hoped for, their performance did not showcase their full capabilities.
Sophomore Luke Weston and freshman Cooper Berger both had quality performances at the plate. Weston drove in a run in the first inning, tying the game at 1-1. In the fifth inning, Berger drove in another run, scoring what would be the final run for the team. Junior captain Alex Zive had an optimistic view of the game.
“Our losses are always very close because of the grit and toughness of this team, and our wins are special because of all of the hard work it takes to win,” Zive said.
So far in the season, the team has accomplished many of its preseason goals. Most recently, the team had their first win in more than three years against Northwood, winning 5-4. On March 23, the team won the series against their rival, Irvine.
“Our record is not where we want it to be, but in other games we have shown signs of being a really good team and we think we can carry that onto next year,” junior Michael Dougherty said.
The team had their senior night and final home game against Portola on April 25.
