UHS hosted the homecoming dance at AV Irvine on Oct 28. Students from all classes attended, creating a unique experience to have fun, take a break and socialize with others. This year’s dance fell on Halloween weekend, a week after the homecoming football game and a month after traditional festivities like Spirit Week, meaning this year had a slightly different timeline.
“In my personal opinion, homecoming is unique because it’s a great vibe,” senior Alexander Nacady said. “I love having dinner with my friends, then proceeding to take pictures with them, followed by an eventful dance.”
Homecoming is a highly anticipated event for students because it is an opportunity for them to take a break from academics and destress from the first few months of school.
“It was different because in Florida, my first homecoming was in a parking lot,” junior Tulan Alshahrani said. “Homecoming was unique in my opinion because it had a great energy.”
Many students agree that it was a great experience socializing with peers and creating new memories. Still, some say some things could have made it better. For example, the lack of food at the dance was criticized by some students.
“The only thing I would change about homecoming is adding food,” Nacady said. “I know other schools add food, but somehow ours doesn’t include food.”
Some students have similar sentiments as to what could be improved to make the dance more enjoyable in the future. Many found that homecoming wasn’t what they expected.
“I wasn’t a big fan of homecoming this year,” freshman Leighton Lee said. “It was nice to hang out with my friends but the music was a little too loud and it was a bit overwhelming with all the people pushing each other around.”
Although there were aspects that students found lacking, they still found the dance enjoyable. It had many things that made the night fun for everybody like the ice cream, the photobooth, the music and the lighting.
“I liked it a lot because the DJ played music I liked,” Nacady said. “Compared to other schools, the DJ was amazing and he listened to the crowd to keep us happy.”
This year’s homecoming dance was a memorable experience for most, especially with this being the first dance of the school year.
