The final schedule was different this year compared to last year because it was one week later than before. Due to the change, finals week was much closer to the Christmas holidays. Many students had different opinions on the schedule change and how it had affected them personally.
“I do not like it being so close to Christmas day though because it does not make it feel like the holidays anymore,” junior Sean Allamehzadeh said. “Although that did give me extra time to study and catch up on my work.”
Finals week being so close to the holidays has affected some student’s plans. This season is when many students and families travel; scheduling finals so close to holidays, like Christmas, may get in the way.
“It is somewhat inconvenient when I usually travel out of state to celebrate the holiday with family and always spend a couple of days before Christmas together,” senior Chi Huynh said. “I barely met all the family members this year before Christmas. Besides that, it has no other huge impact on me.”
However, some students were not as impacted. Since finals week is later in the year, the students have one more week than last year before the break. For others, the extra week can be distracting and stressful for the students.
“When I returned from Thanksgiving, it was kind of daunting because there was one more week of content,” senior Niloufar Forghani said. “I know everyone is [feeling] run down by now so it’s like one more week of staying in school, and that’s kind of affected me in terms of motivation.”
Being in the middle of the school year and preparing for finals can cause a strain on students.
The final schedule change had a significant impact on students. The opinion on the change may vary depending on its impact.
