On Feb. 2 a mixed-reality headset developed by Apple was launched worldwide. The Apple Vision Pro is a space-occupying computer that blends digital content and apps into your physical space, allowing use through the navigation of your eyes, hands and voice.

Technology, especially virtual and augmented reality, has already become a large part of everyday life in school and for entertainment purposes. But with the new device, its impact on society will drastically increase. 

“It dissociates us from reality by not being in the present moment and relying on technology,” junior Maritza Guzman said.

The creation of the Apple Vision Pro could cause a decrease in social interaction, physical activities and a reliance on technologies in order to solve problems. There is also the concern of privacy and security, especially with the younger generation who is unaware of the dangers of sharing personal information on online platforms. This could lead to large problems as children are exposed to the internet at a young age.

“I think there is going to be an increased dependence on the internet,” junior Huiwon Jang said. “New technology and ways of meeting people will change because of virtual and augmented reality.”

Although it is important to be mindful of the risks that come with such advanced technology, there are many ways it could be useful. For example, the Vision Pro could help enhance learning experiences, facilitate social interactions and improve problem-solving. As the development of technology advances, it also influences social interactions between people. 

It provides an immersive experience for people and can change the way people connect. Even though the new technology may not have that much of an impact yet, it will in the future. 

“It’s going to take the world some time to get used to but I am hopeful that people will use it for good,” teacher Mrs. Sparks said. 

In conclusion, the Apple Vision Pro is a remarkably advanced technological innovation that offers many opportunities.  However, like any new technology, people should be aware of the risk they could be exposed to. The Apple Vision Pro is still a recent development to society and its potential impact on people’s lives depends on how they decide to use it.
