“Brawl Stars,” a multiplayer mobile game, has recently seen an astonishing rise in popularity, especially at UHS. Created by the game developer Supercell, “Brawl Stars” has become the company’s most popular title, surpassing its other hits, such as “Clash Royale” and “Clash of Clans.” Since its release in 2018, the game has experienced exponential growth, tripling its player base since launch.
“Brawl Stars” is renowned for its online battle royale and shooter format, captivating a global audience. The game offers various solo and group modes, providing a diverse gameplay experience and a variety of characters, each with unique traits and playstyles. These favorable attributes have cultivated a large community around the game, with many streamers and content creators surrounding it.
The continuous release of new content through regular updates from Supercell, combined with a wide range of gameplay options, has significantly influenced player attraction and retention.
“I really like the progression and collecting of brawlers, which allows me to play with different characters,” junior Leo Wang said. “I appreciate the direction the game is currently taking through its updates and I think it’s very healthy.”
One main aspect that has allured players is its emphasis on team playing. Friends can enjoy playing against other players, adding a collaborative feel to the game. This is especially true with the recent 5 on 5 game modes released in December 2023, which allowed larger parties to play together. Additionally, the friendly battles option allows friends to play against each other with various settings, modes and maps, creating a memorable in-game experience, with users playing the game more frequently around friends.
“I started playing consistently in the past month,” junior Niklaus Jafary said. “I really enjoy playing with friends and rarely play by myself.”
Many players have returned to the game in the past several months, leading to a surge in popularity throughout the end of 2023 and 2024. At UHS specifically, students can be found playing during their breaks and free time.
“I have been playing a lot during my junior year,” junior Rishi Raja said. “I mostly play during school breaks and lunch.”
Overall, “Brawl Stars” has provided players with an enjoyable experience through its fun format, variety of play options, team aspect and continuous updates with new features, reflecting its rapid rise in popularity. This has solidified the game’s status as a beloved title in the mobile gaming landscape and showcases its potential for continued growth.
