On March 22, the UHS Comedy Sportz team held their “Leprechaun Match” against ASB in the Big Theater. This Saint Patrick’s Day-themed event was the fourth match of this year, which featured ASB members competing against the Comedy Sportz team. As the battle of humorous improv began, the team members entered the stage.
The match began with the Comedy Sportz team presenting a speech on a randomly selected prompt from the audience. The teams took turns patiently waiting for errors in the speech before correcting their facts comedically and taking over the mic. The inclusion of audience members during the performance added a sense of interactivity between the audience and players.
After this warm-up round concluded, the two main teams of the night entered the stage and selected a game to begin with. As the show progressed, the teams faced each other neck to neck in both team and individual activities. At the end of each activity, the score of the match is read aloud by the match’s commentator.
“Competing in the Comedy Sportz match was so fun because it gave me a chance to get closer with my other ASB members, get to know the Comedy Sportz players better, and pushed me and the other ASB members out of our comfort zone.” ASB member Rowan Olson said. “It was so nice to laugh with each other and try something entirely new.”
Halfway through the show, a short intermission took place in which a raffle was held to win a pot of gold chocolate coins. Those who attended the show dressed in green attire received a bonus raffle ticket. During intermission, snacks and beverages were available for purchase outside the theater, and funds were used to support the theater team.
“I enjoy the community Comedy Sportz provides,” Comedy Sportz member Parker Medvitz said. “Everyone is equally willing to mess around with each other just for the sake of having fun. No one is too cool for it, we all want to be there because we like having fun in silly ways.”
