On May 18, UHS held its annual Prom at the Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo. This year’s Prom theme, “Tangled,” was well represented by the lanterns and light decorations.
The dance included many different forms of entertainment for students to enjoy. There was an area for a live band, snacks and refreshments, poker and blackjack, a caricature artist and the main dance floor.
“It was cool, especially all the different things we had to do,” senior Richard Barnes said. “It was probably the best venue and had the most things to do out of the dances.”
Students had mixed feelings about the song selection and dance floor rules. They were not allowed to mosh in the crowd, but the event DJ allowed students to make song requests.
“The music kind of ruined the night for me honestly,” senior Christian Debarge said. “I’m a big music person so the songs played didn’t sit right with me.”
Many students enjoyed the poker and blackjack tables. These features are new additions to UHS dances.
“My favorite part of the entire night was the poker tables,” senior Kareem Wali said. “I didn’t expect it at all, and I really enjoy playing, so it was a great surprise for sure.”
The night capped off with the announcements of Prom King and Queen. The winners were seniors Eithar Takesh and Jesse Niedwick. After the announcement, a slow dance was held to end the festivities.
The 2024 UHS Prom was a fulfilling experience for seniors to enjoy their last high school dance and make memories with their friends.
