On March 18, University High School (UHS)’s girls and boys swim teams won their first non-league dual meet against Laguna Hills High School. The girls team won with 351 points to Laguna’s 102 and the boys team won with 384 points to Laguna’s 67. Overall, University earned 735 points to triumph over Laguna, with 169 points.
In relay events, the first place team earns 8 points, the second place team earns 4 points and the third place team earns 2 points; in individual events, first place swimmers earns 6 points, second place swimmers earns 4 points, third place swimmers earns 3 points, etc. Each team is permitted to have three entries in each event.
Varsity girls won 5 events out of the 11, sweeping the 200 Medley relay, 100 Back and 100 Breast events with first place, second place and third place finishes. Lauren Weins (Jr.) earned her California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Automatic time in the 100 Back.
Varsity boys won every event, sweeping the 200 Medley relay, 200 IM, 100 Fly, 500 Free and 100 Breast by placing first, second and third. Corey Okubo (Sr.) won both the 200 IM and 100 Fly with CIF Automatic times in both events, Will Hofstadter (Jr.) won the 100 Breast and 50 Free with CIF Consideration times in both, and Alejandro Ortiz (Jr.) won both the 200 Free and 100 Free with a CIF Automatic time in the 200 and a CIF Consideration time in the 100.
JV girls won every event out of the 11. They swept the 200 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free, 100 Fly, 500 Free and 400 Free relay by winning first, second and third. Emma Hsu (Jr.) won both of her individual events, the 100 Fly and 200 IM.
JV boys won all their events, sweeping the 200 Free, 200 IM, 100 Fly, 500 Free and 100 Breast. Stephen Yang (So.) won the 200 IM and 100 Fly with a CIF Consideration time in the 100 Fly, George Horvath (Fr.) won the 200 Free and 500 Free, and Kei Yoshikawa (Fr.) won the 500 Free and 50 Free.
Both teams will compete at their first League dual meet against Woodbridge High School this week on March 26 and the girls teams competed at the Capistrano Valley Relays on March 20 and March 22.
