Want to buy designer pieces for less? Target has been teaming up with top designers including Missoni, Prabal Gurun, Jason Wu, and Harajuku and department store Neiman Marcus to make their clothes more accessible and affordable. This time, the mass-market retailer is collaborating with New York based fashion designer Phillip Lim for a fall collection.
Phillip Lim is the creative director of his own line called 3.1 Phillip Lim. His line is known for its New York urban style and graphic aesthetic that appeals to both men and women. Lim’s price points are not worth a fortune, but his clothes can still cost a pretty penny. Apparel and accessories from his line range from $14.99 to $299.99.
On September 15, 2013, Lim’s collaboration with Target came out in select Target stores in the United States and Canada. Lim’s fall collection includes both women’s wear and men’s wear.
Lim’s designs for this project are simply based off of his own brand 3.1 Phillip Lim, with graphic pop art jumpers, motto leather jackets and pashli satchels that have now received the Target makeover. This high-end merchandise from Target has grabbed everyone’s attention.
Kristian Brooks, a fashion blogger, remarked on the quick sell-out of the collection in a CNBC interview as she said, “The only thing I walked out of Target with was laundry detergent.”
Yan Chan, another fashion blogger, agreed with Brooks on her personal blog (parfasseux.blogspot.com), saying, “Things were disappearing from the shelves within the first hour the store opened.” When I went to Target myself, the staff informed me, “Even the items online are mostly sold out. Stocks are very limited.”
All this was just an hour after the line was launched. It was reported that the Phillip Lim racks at the Target in West Hollywood were stripped clean in just ten minutes.
According to Women’s Wear Daily, Target will continue to team up with top designers to create collections that will expand to many other departments like food, clothing, home decor and even pet food. Many buyers are anticipating what Target has to offer for its winter designer collaboration.
