Readers typically choose to read what is most popular in the book industry. Regardless of whether people are avid readers, they tend to have an idea of what the popular books are, like Twilight, Harry Potter and The Hunger Games. Although many readers enjoy reading these popular series, it is also important not to lose sight of other, lesser-known series.
I decided to do something out of my comfort zone and read a book that was not well-known. The author whose book I chose to read was Amanda Hocking. At 29 years old, Hocking has already written the Water Song series and twelve other fiction books. I chose to read Wake, the first book in the Water Song series.
My reaction to Wake was a solid WOW–a full 5-star rating. Filled with mystery, suspense, romance and adventure, it is one of the most unique novels that I have ever read.
As soon as I started reading, the book was extremely hard to put the down. Whenever I finished reading a page, I became more excited about what was going to happen next.
The story revolves around Penn, Lexi and Thea, three gorgeous girls who are strangers in town for the summer and have everyone’s attention. These girls are prettier than anyone in the town, yet for some reason everyone in town is scared of them and try to stay away from them because they seem dangerous. The girls, however, pay special attention to one girl: Gemma, who unintentionally becomes a part of their group. Life is great for Gemma until it suddenly changes when one night, after her nightly swim, Penn, Lexi and Thea invite her to join them. The next morning, Gemma wakes up on the beach with several noticeable cuts and bruises. When her sister finds her and takes her home, Gemma suddenly feels different. She feels stronger, faster and more beautiful than ever. Most importantly of all, she notices that the deep cuts and bruises have vanished in less than three hours. Long after, she discovers her healing abilities as well as other new powers. Her powers from the mysterious girls cause her to make a very hard decision: go with the girls or stay home and face the consequences that have come with her powers.
Read the book to know about the details, and what her final decision will be. What has suddenly happened to the perfect life of Gemma? And what will she choose to do?
