UHS Boys’ Water Polo capped off the Chris Weisz Memorial Tournament with a 14-4 rout of Palos Verdes High School, finishing with a 3-2 tournament record.
The Trojans opened with an exciting 10-6 victory against Pacifica High School (PHS). UHS and Pacifica (PHS) were nearly even throughout the entire game, but UHS scored 5 goals in the fourth quarter to solidify the victory. Jacob Ghahremani (Sr.) shone with 5 total goals of his 15 overall.
“Our coach told us that the team that wanted it more was going to win the game,” Ghahremani said. “We wanted it badly and got amped, which really sparked our 5-0 run.”
UHS then suffered a tough 6-19 loss against Mater Dei High School, in which a rough first quarter doomed the Trojans.
The Trojans did bounce back with an 8-5 win over Peninsula High School. Scott Laske (Jr.) led the Trojans with 6 saves.
UHS then suffered a 6-9 setback against St. John Bosco High School, in which a 4-0 first quarter deficit proved fatal to the Trojans.
The Trojans, however, did not let that happen against Palos Verdes High School as they led 5-0 and never looked back, winning 14-4. Daniel Campanaro (Jr.) led all scorers with 5 of his 13 tournament goals.
“Most schools think that since we did not do well last year, we will do poorly this year, but I don’t think that’s the case,” Laske said. “We have a lot of talent and a lot of people who work hard and that will help us in tough games.”
